Cascine Orsine has been following biodynamic principles since 1976, thanks to Giulia Crespis son, Aldo Paravicini Crespi. While its not clear exactly which methods the farm uses on their rice crops, they are certified by Demeter, the first certification and labeling system for organic production, created in 1924. The Demeter association of biodynamic farmers holds the biodynamic trademark and requires that Demeter organizations meet specific international standards, including agronomic guidelines, greenhouse management, structural components, livestock guidelines, and post-harvest handling and processing procedures. According to their website, in 2013 Demeter biodynamically certified about 4,800 farms worldwide.
