He had been farming conventionally using pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers, but the course taught him how to partner with nature instead of trying to control it.

One of the week’s cool discoveries was in Edna Valley, a coastal region in San Luis Obispo, which I visited with winemaker Gina Hildebrand. Her brand-new label, launched in 2017, is called Lady of the Sunshine. Unlike most upstart California winemakers, who buy fruit from vineyards that they don’t farm, Hildebrand is now the caretaker of a small, 6.5-acre Edna Valley parcel, essentially a backyard vineyard, called Chene.

Eurythmy represents a performing arts experience unlike many others. Choreographed directly from the nuances of a musical piece, eurythmy is a movement art which interprets the music as a gesture in space through choreography of the elements of 'tone', 'speech' and 'silent'. This interactive discipline links art, poetry, language, and music with the movements found at the base of all art forms.

Only a tiny fraction of the world’s wine producers are “biodynamic.” It’s an odd concept. Sometimes it is thought of as being a mystic sect, sometimes people believe it is just another word for “organic.” Neither is true. While many of these outfits are relatively new, legacy prefab designers are also making strides. Siegal recently partnered with builder Bevyhouse and premium kitchen designer Tortoise to develop her own line of prefab ADU models and is also currently working on a modular design for the Sanderling Waldorf School in Carlsbad, California.
